Sump Pump Installation is a smart move for most NJ Homeowners. A Sump Pump prevents flooding and excess moisture in a basement. Flooding can cause thousands of dollars in damage to a basement, and the presence of moisture can create an equally costly mold problem.
As a coastal state, NJ faces tropical storms and hurricanes that can bring excess water even to the highest elevation houses, and many homes are located near rivers, lakes and streams that can become flooded.
On the repair side, our team sees a lot of failed and failing sump pump installations, many caused by do-it-yourself homeowners and well-meaning handymen who failed to calculate the necessary capacity, pit size or pump quality needed for the job at hand. Simple errors such as a pump leaning in its pit can cause a pump to short-cycle and eventually burn out.
Jersey Sump Pumps is a division of Jersey Plumbing Service and our Licensed Master Plumbers will expertly install a sump pump that suits your home's unique needs with quality equipment that will stand the test of time.

Types of Sump Pumps
Submersible Sump Pumps
A sump pump is installed at the lowest point of your basement or crawl space. Installed around your home's foundation is a perimeter drain system where ground water collects and is deferred to a sump pump pit. A submersible pump sits at the bottom of a sump pit, which is triggered by a float switch. When water levels rise and trigger the switch, the pump moves the water to the nearest storm drain, dry well or detention pond. Your sump pump is your best line of defense against flood damage in your basement. Because the same storms that bring a lot of extra water into the drainage system also tend to knock out the power, it is recommended to install a battery backup for your sump pump.
Water Powered Backup Sump Pumps
A water powered sump pump is a great alternative to a batter backup sump pump if you have access to municipal water. When your power goes out, it switches to the use of town water to power the pump, keeping your basement safe and dry until power is restored. Water costs will go up when the unit is in use, however, compared to the cost of a flooded basement, it's well worth the investment and will never need a battery.
Sump Pump Installation Process
When we install your sump pump, we start by scouting the best location, usually in the basement or lowest point of your property. We dig a pit of the appropriate size to house the pump, ensuring it's well-suited to handle the water volume. Once that's set, we carefully place the pump inside the pit, making sure it's level and secure.
Connecting the discharge pipe comes next. We position it to guide water away from your foundation, crucial for preventing water damage. It's important to us that the pump is correctly installed and that any additional components, like a check valve, are in place for optimal functionality.
Before we finish up, we always conduct thorough tests. We pour water into the pit to ensure the pump activates as expected and efficiently removes the water. Plus, we'll guide you through basic maintenance steps, emphasizing the importance of regular checks to keep your pump in top shape.
Our goal is to ensure your sump pump installation is not only effective but also provides you with peace of mind, knowing your property is better protected against potential water issues.
Preparation and Site Assessment: First, we carefully assess the best location for the sump pump in your basement or the lowest point of the area. We dig a pit or reservoir of adequate size to accommodate the pump, ensuring proper measurements for optimal functionality.
Sump Pump Installation: Once the pit is prepared, we position the sump pump securely inside it. Our team connects the discharge pipe to the pump and directs it away from the foundation to ensure effective water diversion. We meticulously level the pump and ensure the check valve, if included, is correctly installed.
Electrical Setup: To power the sump pump, we expertly connect it to an appropriate electrical source. For safety and compliance with local codes, we use Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets or have a licensed electrician hardwire the pump.
Testing and Ongoing Maintenance Guidance: We conduct rigorous tests to ensure the sump pump activates as expected. Pouring water into the pit, we verify the pump efficiently removes the water. We also provide guidance on regular maintenance, emphasizing the importance of periodic checks, cleaning, and debris removal to maintain the pump's optimal performance.
Please note, our installation process adheres to safety standards and local regulations to ensure the effective and safe operation of your sump pump.
